Find, renew, hold

Access the library catalogue to start your search.
Depending on your browser's language preferences, you may need to change the catalogue's language first, at the bottom of the page.

To start your search, type in the search bar.
You can limit your results to words in the title when you already know the book title you're seeking or another specified search field.
You can also limit your results to a library branch (your local library, for instance).

Biblioteca Universidade Europeia (Universidade Europeia Library, at Quinta do Bom Nome Campus) is home to the IPAM Lisboa Library as well. Both library branches are under the same location "Biblioteca Universidade Europeia (QBN)".
You can also borrow from any branch and return any books at any branch as well, either in person or by inter-branch loan.

For more information on a book and its availability, please check the detailed record:

Holdings: Lists all the items available in the collective library collection. In this case, there are four identical books in four different locations.

Title notes: Usually contains the Table of Contents and additional information.

Current location: The current library branch holding this item.

Call number: Its location in the library room. Remember: Never reshelve books; leave them on the table or with the librarian.

Status: Available or Checked out and its due date. You can place a hold on both available and checked-out items.

Item holds: If an item is on hold for a user, it is not available for a different user to check it out. In this case, there's one user who has placed a hold on a currently available item and will be checking it out soon.

Access the library catalogue and click the "Personal area" icon.

Log in to your library account using:

  • your student or your teacher number
  • your Canvas password

You can now access your active loans and holds. You can also check your reading history.
After you log in to your library account, you can renew your loans and place holds.

Your reading history lists all the books you've ever checked out.

This list is useful when you'd like to check out the same book(s) again or when you need more information on them, for instance, when you need to complete your bibliographic references and you're lacking some details.

After you log in to your library account, you'll see a list of your active loans.

Click "Renew all", or "Renew" next to the book you want to renew if it is not overdue.

You can renew each item twice, provided it has not been requested by other library users.
The new due date is calculated starting from the moment you renew, not from the previous due date.

Not renewable: You've already renewed this item twice. You should return it by its due date.

Not renewable (on hold): This book is now on hold for another student, and it cannot be renewed. You should return it by its due date.

You can place a hold on available or checked-out items (max. 2 holds).

To place a hold, first log in to your library account. Then, use the search bar to find the item you wish to reserve.

Browse the search results and "Place hold" on the desired item.

You can open the item's detailed record for more options and information.

Then confirm this action:

You will receive a confirmation email from your library as soon as it becomes available.

You can only place holds on items from your own library branch.
If you wish to place a hold on an item from a different library branch, please contact your local library.
