This study investigates how project‑based learning in university‑business partnerships enhances student exchange of knowledge on sustainability. Research at Nottingham Trent University shows that when students work on real‑world projects with businesses, their sustainability knowledge, competencies, attitudes, and behaviours all improve. Key factors influencing impact include whether projects are embedded in the curriculum or extracurricular, their customisation, and how long students are exposed to sustainability‑focused work. The authors argue that PBL offers valuable benefits in capacity building, shaping values, and improving students’ readiness for sustainable careers, suggesting important implications for university teaching and curriculum design.
